5 minutes with Priscilla Barroso
We wanted to delve deeper and find out more about our amazing designers, so we got in touch with some of the talents behind the fashion on Inspirare to find out what makes them tick.
Priscilla Barroso from the vibrant, fun and colorful label Crowned Bird, took a few minutes to give us an insight into her creative process and inspirations.
Inspirare: What’s your proudest creative achievement?
Priscilla: My proudest creative achievement was working as a custom tailor for Carlos Santana and Tom Waits. Although I have dressed other celebrities, these men are legends and it was an honor.
Inspirare: Do you have a trick to battle ‘designer’s block’?
Priscilla: Everyone has their own tricks to creative blockage. In order to design organically, there has to be a sense of clarity within you before you begin. If you are troubled by outside sources, via life or relationships, it becomes much more challenging to perform and have the confidence that you need to execute seamlessly. You can find inspiration through the most obscure outlets. So try taking a different route to work or wander through the city streets with your camera taking shots of random moments that capture you. Those fortunate two minutes of your day can change the entire direction of your collection. You never know what you might see.
Inspirare: What object can’t you live without?
Priscilla: Seamripper. Mistakes happen and this is the guy that is always there for you.
Inspirare: Do you collect things? Like what?
Priscilla: I love old books and have always been collecting short stories from the 60s and 70s. It was only appropriate that my launch collection be inspired by a 1964 storybook, Peppermint Fence. Found at my local flea market.
Inspirare: In your opinion, which other designer on the Inspirare website is doing amazing things?
Priscilla: Iona Ciolacu is inspiring in her approach to geometrics.
Inspirare: If you could meet anybody in the world, past or present, who would it be?
Priscilla: Miss Audrey Hepburn. She defined an era that captured my heart. Many hearts.
Inspirare: What’s your favorite fashion or style quote?
Priscilla: “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” ― Coco Chanel
Inspirare: In 5 words, describe your perfect day.
Priscilla: Amused. Inspired. Styled. Uplifted. Reinvented.
