When I began designing the Arrow dress I was trying to think of ways I could add intrigue and geometry into a slim fit pencil dress. I was inspired by the way geometric shapes can create illusions for the eye, drawing the eye to specific areas to enhance and slim a woman's figure. I used opposing triangles carefully placed around the waist and ribs to create the illusions of V shapes that would further slim the waistline. The line I wanted to design around the neckline and shoulders was very important to the success of the illusions of shapes I utilized in the rest of the design. The elongated triangles that come up from the side of the figure creates the impression that the shoulders and neck are delicate because of the hard shape.
