In it’s commitment to support emerging designers, INSPIRARE is partnering with Vancouver Fashion Week to launch the Spring/Summer 2015 Global Fashion Design Competition. This collaboration aims to strengthen innovative fashion, support emerging designers and discover new talent. One winner will be selected and will receive a featured editorial in INSPIRARE magazine, as well as, a sponsored runway show from VFW. The VFW package includes show passes, media promotion and full runway production.

VFW is a diverse and innovative fashion experience for future fashion leaders. The fastest-growing fashion week in the world, VFW, aims to showcase up-and-coming designers and link them to buyers, media, and industry professionals. With over 20,000 attendees each season, VFW is the perfect event for new designers to gain international recognition in the fashion world.

From September 15th-21st, Vancouver will see an influx of industry professionals, fashion conscious consumers and large media outlets, including: Vogue UK, Niche Magazine, BC Living, CBC World TV, L’Officiel, Glamour and Hush Magazine. Past partners include: Shopstyle, Covergirl, Pantene, Olay and Proctor & Gamble. Along with celebrities and notable fashion bloggers, VFW will be the perfect event for emerging designers to gain global exposure and industry recognition.

Timeline

Below are the dates to scrupulously observe as there will be no leniency on the timeline. The deadline to enroll in the INSPIRARE Design Collection Competition for S/S 2015 Vancouver Fashion week is: Midnight, Pacific time, on July 7, 2014. Entrants after this date will be disqualified.

May 29: INSPIRARE Design Collection Competition opens
June 24 July 7: Deadline to enroll and submit all deliverables
July 8-9: INSPIRARE and Judges selection of finalists
July 10: Finalists to be announced, and VFW final section
July 11: Winner will be announced
Sept 15-21: S/S 2015 Vancouver Fashion Week
(Winning Designer fashion show date during VFW is to be determined.)

HOW TO ENTER?

Please be advised that all of the following requirements and deliverables must be met and submitted in order to qualify.

INSPIRARE Fashion Design Competition is open to: Emerging designers worldwide

Deliverables:
Please submit all deliverables in a single zipped folder via one (1) e-mail addressed to: design@inspirare.com with the subject of VFW S/S 2015_INSPIRARE Fashion Design Competition_(First & Last Name)
with the following documents:

  1. Resume. Please be sure to include your contact information on the letterhead.
  2. Statement explaining who you are as a designer and why you should be chosen for the sponsorship.
  3. Portfolio in PDF form or a link to your web portfolio.
  4. Links to social media if any: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
  5. Original artistic sketches/illustrations of a collection for the VFW of 12. Actual photos of established looks required.
  6. Technical/spec sheet of each designs with technical drawings and/or illustrations, as well as material specs.
  7. One (1) PDF file, of all of your collection together.
  8. Design Concept with a brief explanation of your inspiration, including design and material schemes, etc.

Instruction for uploading to Inspirare web site will be provided once the submission passed Inspirare’s basic quality review.

When applying for Vancouver Fashion Week Showcase, must mention Inspirare in the designer name when registering.

Image Requirements

Please submit high-resolution images (minimum of 2MB each). All documents must be in PDF or Jpeg. Each look must have at least one photo.

Please submit all deliverables in a single zipped folder via one (1) e-mail. If files exceed 25mb, please use a free mega up-loader such as www.transferbigfiles.com; include link of this transfer to your e-mail submission to INSPIRARE.

Judging Criteria

The following criteria will be meticulously observed throughout the selection process.

  • Originality
  • Innovation
  • Strength of the concept and inspiration behind the design
  • Creative interpretation of the concept and inspiration
  • Commercial viability
  • Choice of fabrication and trims
  • Technical awareness
  • Written and visual explanation of the design

Prize Details

The first place designer will receive amassed media coverage. Vancouver Fashion Week is expected to receive over 300 million social media impressions.

Bailee Edgington

Bailee Edgington lives fashion. She’s a freelance fashion and wardrobe stylist currently residing in LA from NYC. 
Ever since her childhood, a career in the fashion industry has been not only her dream, but a goal. Receiving a degree from FIDM at a young age has helped her business sense in the industry; her sense of style and keen eye ahead of the trends has put her beyond the rest when it comes to styling. Its been said she can take inspiration from anything and turn it into a clothing masterpiece. 
Before turning 25, she has been published in multiple magazines, styled short films & commercials, and built a bicoastal name for herself. One to look out for, she is now head fashion editor of Visionarios Magazine, and only getting started.

Bry Newman – Fashion Blogger
Bryn Newman is the Marketing Manager at LE TOTE and founder of the style blog Stone Fox Style. Bryn has started a successful career at the ripe age of 20 years old. Her story is that of ups and downs and Larry David-esque tendencies. Bryn has worked with brands like Levi’s, Nifty Thrifty, Missguided, Dahlia Wolf, Front Row Shop, Windsor Store, and more. Her features include Lucky Mag, Teen Vogue, Vanity Fair, Nasty Gal, Pose, StreetFashionStyle.com, to name a few. She was nominated as a best dressed contender in Vanity Fair’s International Best Dressed list this past May. Bryn focuses her free time on collaborating with local photographers, whether it’s styling or modeling and creating content for her blog. And of course she loves shopping at local thrift stores.

 

Jen Senn

Jen Senn

Jen’s passion for photography began in high school, and since then she has fine-tuned her creative eye and technical skills shooting for a wide array of food, fashion, product, and commercial brands. She finds her greatest inspiration in the beauty of New York City.

If she’s not behind her camera lens, Jen is usually eating M&M’s and scouting models. It all started in her high school dark room and Jen still shoots film and loves mixing digital as well. You can see her work here www.jensenn.com

 

Josie Cabrera

Josie Cabrera

Originally from Southern California, lived in New York, and now San Francisco based. Influenced by the contrasting cultures, she’s been exposed to a heightened sense of style in a world of art, fashion, and beauty - Since a young age she was intrigued by fashion and art.

Graduated from FIDM with a degree in Merchandise Product Development where she developed a passion for Fashion Styling, Graphic Design, and production. In the meantime, she has been involved in the industry and working with emerging photographers and designers.

Her work reflects the grasp on recreating a place and time through visual expression and a passion for art and fashion.

At Inspirare she gets to contribute her past experience and learn from others as well. She is happy to be part of this team and the community of talented creative individuals that are the makers of Inspirare.

 

Tony Sananikone

Tony Sananikone

Born in a political refugee camp in Bangkok, Tony Sananikone, has made a career of turning difficult circumstances into beautiful results. Forced to learn sewing and alternation at an early age in order to customize his own wardrobe, he developed a passion for styling and a talent for creating custom pieces. He followed his passion to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco, CA where he worked at harnessing his talents and focusing his energy on designing and creating both couture and ready-to-wear women’s clothing.Tony has spent the last fifteen years working for one of the largest clothing retailers in the country, and in that roll he has honed his talents for styling and has become a driving force in driving trend within the fashion industry. With “Sounthavong”, Tony launches his own line of women’s clothing inspired by architecture details marrying different fabrics and textures, Tony captures a unique personality with each of his pieces, that effortlessly celebrate the strength of a generation of women that empowered themselves to reach their maximum potential while remaining beautiful and feminine. Tony got his first break when discovered by GenArt NY, winner of 2004 “fresh Faces”.

 

 

 

Terms and Conditions

By agreeing below and in consideration of Inspirare.com evaluating your Design (hereinafter the “Design”) for competition winner and its possible use as the basis of clothing products, you agree to the following terms and conditions (“Design Submission Terms and Conditions”):

 

  • This competition is open to worldwide fashion designers.
  • By entering this design competition, participants further agree to this agreement and Site Terms & Conditions.
  • The competition opens from May 29, 2014 until July 7, 2014.
  • Other than the prizes listed, there is no cash alternative available.
  • Top five (5) finalist to submit two (2) actual samples of their design submission for INSPIRARE to do the magazine editorial/spread photoshoot.  Samples will be returned after photoshoot. Participants are responsible for the costs to ship the two (2) samples both ways.
  • Participants agree when there is any disagreement or conflicts between participants, judging panel and Inspirare, Inspirare team’s has the sole discretion on how to interpret and run the competition, Participants wave the right to sue Inspirare for any reason.
  • You acknowledge that the Design you are assigning to Inspirare is your own original work, has not been previously published, and does not contain any trademarks, logos, copyrighted material, or any other intellectual property belonging to any third party, or any material, which Inspirare in its sole discretion, deems to be profane or offensive. Inspirare revers the right to decline to accept or select a Design for consideration for any reason.
  • Prize winners will be required to participate in publicity involving a print, online, and related media, and give Inspirare permission to reproduce your image online, in print media or possible use as the basis of clothing products. You agree to have your name released as the winner should you be chosen as a winner of the prize. If your design is selected as winner and for use by Inspirare, you acknowledge that you assign to Inspirare and its subsidiaries and affiliates the entire right, title and interest in and to the copyright in your Design including the right to use for past infringement and the right to further sub-license the Design, for its sole and exclusive use on and in connection with the items. You also acknowledge that you waive all “moral” rights that you may have in and to your design.
  • Inspirare reserves the right to withdraw or amend this competition in the event of any unforeseen circumstances outside their reasonable control.
  • Neither Inspirare or its affiliated companies shall have any liability for (i) any technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions or disconnections in its web online service; (ii) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the competition; (iii) any malfunction of or damage to the prizes; or (iv) any restrictions of delays imposed by any customs authorities or any import or other taxes of any kind imposed by any taxation authority in respect of the prizes.
